TEFL Volunteer Needed (January-December 2013, can be revised)
A new and exciting opportunity is available for a TEFL qualified teacher to volunteer with the Rural Development Interdiocesan Service, Rwanda. The placement will be for one year from January to December 2013. It is a great opportunity to gain some cross-cultural experience as well as benefit the local community here with your skills and abilities. RDIS has been working in the four Dioceses of the Anglican Church of Rwanda (Butare, Kigeme, Shyogwe and Cyangugu) for the past 17 years. RDIS’ activities are concentrated in the centre and south-western part of the country where the four dioceses are located, serving almost half of the population. RDIS believes that the Church has a central role to play in the socioeconomic development of the people. The organisation focuses on transformation brought about through spiritual change and the participation of the community in identifying and implementing relevant projects to overcome their daily problems. Working through various projects is our way of communicating the gospel and God’s love to the poorest of the poor, applying integral mission and responding to God’s call in Micah 6:8, “What does the Lord require of you? To act justly, and to love mercy and to walk humbly with your God.”
Since 1994, Rwanda has acknowledged English as a national language. English is becoming more and more widespread in business and development, yet teaching from native speaking English people is lacking, such a volunteer would enable those in the Church and RDIS and in the local schools to gain an upper hand in their knowledge and help them overcome some of the everyday language problems they face, at schools, universities and in their jobs. RDIS is seeking a qualified TEFL teacher (or similar qualification) to work on a voluntary basis for the Rural development Interdiocesan Service. The duties will be as follows:
– 4 Days/Week Mon, Tue, Thurs, Fri.
– To teach English to RDIS and Diocesan staff.
– To teach at a secondary level in a local school. – To teach various church members in ‘English clubs’.
– Participate in everyday activities of the Church, devotions, worship etc.
Applicants will be required to source funds for their entire year as this is a voluntary position. RDIS will help the applicant arrange accommodation nearby their places of work as well as helping them to settle into life in Rwanda within their first month, then work will subsequently begin. The preliminary budget will be £12,000 for the year, to include all monthly expenditure and other necessary items; flights, health insurance, holidays etc. For more information in fundraising and living abroad please visit: http://www.oscar.org.uk and http://www.stewardship.org.uk
